Special geometry only producible in ceramic 3D printing

The dispensing needle has a unique internal geometry: an internal cone that tapers from a few millimeters to 0.8mm, while still having a complex curvature. This design could not be produced using conventional manufacturing technologies; only 3D printing can reproduce the component in all its complexity. The high precision of the Bosch Advanced Ceramics process also ensures the necessary low surface roughness. This allows the adhesive to flow through the bore with little friction.

Enhancing Additive Manufactured Ceramic Parts with Functional Coatings

A coating can improve existing properties or introduce a completely new one. It is possible to make ceramics, which are normally insulating materials, conductive at specific points by applying metallic layers. One remarkable example of our capabilities is the 4-pol pin tip. The curved tip measures 30mm in length and 4.6mm in diameter and has four inner channels measuring 1mm in diameter. It can be seamlessly integrated into medical devices for sensorics or stimulative applications. A coating functionalization enhances its cleanability and surface roughness (Ra=0.8 µm). A probe head with this functionalization gives medical professionals a versatile tool with integrated functions, such as electrical conductivity.

These needles demonstrate the precision and efficiency of AM technology. One platform can be loaded with 444 identical, complex needles. The sewing needle is used for tailored fiber placement, in which hard fibers such as glass or carbon fibers are processed. As these fibers cause a high wear rate, all fiber guiding elements in a machine must be extremely wear-resistant. Ceramic is a suitable material for the needle due to its high wear resistance. The low weight of ceramic allows the needle to move faster, while its high rigidity prevents bending.

Large diameter, flat design and extended functionality

The Large Ring Blade is an integral part of an automated actuator specifically designed for the handling and processing of 200mm wafers. This particular application requires exceptional chemical resistance and electrical insulation properties. The Large Ring Blade has an exceptionally high level of flatness (less than 100µm) and opens up new possibilities in part design. The Large Ring Blade has internal channels that facilitate efficient gas distribution or vacuum processes.

The compact design of the heat exchanger maximizes performance while minimizing space requirements. Its 2mm diameter inner channel showcases a highly complex design, enabling optimal fluid flow and heat exchange. Notably, the heat exchanger can withstand ultra-high operating temperatures of up to 1400°C, ensuring reliable performance in demanding environments. Additionally, it is impermeable to liquids and gases, guaranteeing efficient heat transfer without leakage. With exceptional thermal conductivity and specific electrical resistance, it is perfect for cooling hot areas or heating cold areas.

Strength and Density for Uncompromising Performance

The Gripper is a medical instrument designed for surgical applications. With its versatile capabilities, this tool allows for seamless handling, gripping, and holding of various materials. The Gripper's two curved groove areas enable precise operation and manipulation during medical procedures, accommodating both organic and inorganic materials. What sets this instrument apart is its inner channel, which not only allows for the application of fluids like air or water at the tip but also provides a pathway for electrical wires to contact the tip of the gripper for sensory or actuator applications. Its exceptional density of >6.1 g/cm³, coupled with its absence of open porosity, ensures higher bending strength and fracture toughness compared to alumina.
